Sizzla - Da Real Thing
Releasedatum: 18 november 2002
Zillionth Sizzla release finds Kalonji back in the very capable hands of Bobby Digital. Gone are the hardcore slack ragga songs, this one is pure one drop, played with real drum and bass. Lyrically he is as hoarse as he has been in the last year or so, and now and the he gives us a snippet of the high squeaky style he is currently developing, so be sure that this one is a brand new recording (unlike the 'Good Ways' album, with featured songs recorded for the 'Black Woman and Child' sessions). Not one song on the album came out on 45, so this really is one of those rare Jamaican art forms, a REAL album instead of a collection of 45s. Dunno whether this one will reach the same status as the for-mentioned two other albums he did for Bobby Digital, but it sure beats most of his recent Xterminator outings. It is a shame about the three bonus tracks the cd offers, after 12 very good one drop riddims, the album closes on the r&b tip Sizzla loves so much and the rest of us cannot be bothered about.
