Gaylads - Ska Days (Studio One)
Releasedatum: 21 november 2002
Living Legend BB Seaton keeps surprising us with re-release after re-release of his own classic material. This album focuses on the early days of BB’s career, Both as a solo singer (as he started out), a duo with is close friend Winston 'Delano' Stewart, and finally as a trio called the Gaylads (with Maurice Roberts). It features 26 tracks, from the first dubplates he recorded for Coxsones Down Beat soundsystem back in 1959, to the latest ska outings of the Gaylads in 1966, just before rock steady changed the scene and the Gaylads started to get their major hits like 'No Good Girl', 'Hard To Confess' and 'Lady With The Red Dress On'. This one features mostly Studio One production, with a couple of self-produced tracks and one for Justin Yap's Top Deck label. It's pure niceness galore, with the backing of (in chronological order) the Blues Blasters, The Skatalites or the Soul Brothers. A few songs are known to us, 'Africa', 'Trouble', 'Only You' and 'Brown Skin Gal', the majority are collectors items. Just listen to the voice on the first few bars of 'Power', the song we selected as a soundsample... Now that's the voice of Coxsone himself.
