Various Artists - Biggest Dancehall Anthems (1979-82)
Releasedatum: 10 september 2007
Back in the early eighties Greensleeves Records ruled the reggae charts in England. It was this label, which licensed the products of hit makers Junjo Lawes, Prince Jammy, Linval Thompson and Gussie Clarke, the top producers of the era. This album, which comes as a double CD and quadruple album contains no less than 40 of the biggest dancehall hits of those golden days of the ‘Cool and Deadly’, the ‘Rub-a-Dub’ and the ‘Water Pumping’. They’re all there, too much to mention, so I leave you with a quick roll call. The album includes tunes by Johnny Osbourne, Barrington Levy, Wailing Souls, Eek A Mouse, Yellowman, Dennis Brown, Hugh Mundell, General Echo and many, many more. If you, like me, lived through these times, you will enjoy this trip on memory lane. If you are a novice to these golden days, I cannot imagine a better introduction.
