The cooperation between Coxsone and Soul Jazz records is one that all reggae lovers should be grateful about. This is the fourth album Soul Jazz compiles out of Coxsone’s enormous catalogue and once more, it’s a scorcher. This time the album focuses on the deejays that rode the legendary studio one riddims in the seventies and early eighties. From early toasters like Count Matchouki (‘More Scorcha’) and Dennis Alcapone (‘Power Version’), via roots deejays like Jazzbo (‘Crime Don’t Pay’), Dillinger (‘Kung Fu’) and Prince Far I (‘Natty Farmland’), it leads to rub-a-dub modernists Lone Ranger (‘The Answer’ and ‘The Big Match’) and Brigadier Jerry (‘Every Man A Mi Bredren’). Other names are Prince Francis, Jah Scotchie, Jim Brown, Jah Buzz, Big Joe, Jah Jesco and Charlie Ace. The cd contains a nice cd-rom part, which shows a preview of the forthcoming Studio One documentary featuring Coxsone, Leonard Dillon, Sugar Minott and Lone Ranger amongst others.
