Christ Stopped At Eboli R2 (Uk Import) - Rosi, Francesco
Releasedatum: 15 mei 2006
The triumph of the human spirit is the theme of Rosi’s epic film, in which Gian Maria Volonté (A Fistful of Dollars) gives a superbly shaded performance as Carlo Levi, the Italian intellectual who was exiled in 1935 by the ruling Fascist dictatorship from his sophisticated city home in north Italy to an isolated, poverty-stricken village in the southern Basilicata region. Levi finds himself in a stark world little changed since the Middle Ages – indeed, according to local legend, not even Christ cared to venture into such desolation, stopping at the distant town of Eboli. Living under Fascist oppression and neglect, the peasants scratch a meagre living from the land, but it is their wisdom, humanity and spirit that help Levi to come to terms with his isolation.
