Kanichiro Yoshimura (Kiichi Nakai) is a Samurai family man struggling to feed his family on a pitiful wage. He decides to leave his family, bringing shame upon himself but hoping to earn enough money to send home. Director Yojiro Takita’s end-of-an-era Samurai tale was nominated for 8 Japanese Academy Awards, winning for Best Picture, Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor.
