Luciano - Great Controversy
Releasedatum: 21 februari 2001
After his departure from Xterminator things didn’t look too good for Luciano. He sung songs for almost every producer, but most songs failed to reach the standard he set for himself before. Now he’s back like he has never been away. ‘Great Controversy’ was recorded in the cellars of the Jet Star compex in London and produced by British loversrock singer/producer Danny Ray (remember his 70s hitsingle ‘Playboy’?). No UK lovers here though, Mafia & Fluxy, laid down some wicked roots riddims that aren’t that familiar. ‘Roadblock’ uses Pablove Black’s Studio One instrumental ‘Shaolin Disciple’ for instance. Other riddims include ‘Ride Yu Donkey’, ‘I’m Still Waiting’ and ‘Mr. Chatterbox’, all performed with horns and full band. Danny Ray also build some new riddims, most notably his version of Craig David’s ‘Fill Me In’ that Luciano uses for his heartfelt ‘Call On Yahweh’. A couple of evergreens, ‘Legalise It’, ’Amen’ and a nyabinghi version of ‘Rivers Of Babylon’ topple things off too make a very good album even better.
