Hammond, Beres - Music Is Life
Releasedatum: 10 februari 2001
Certain artists never disappoint, and Beres Hammond definitely is one of them. For this album, Beres teamed up with Fattis and delivers some of his best work ever in a mixture of Xterminator and Harmony House productions. Solid loversrock and rub-a-dub riddims, most using real drum and bass courtesy of Roots Radics and the Firehouse Crew, all with Beres’ trademarks: his rusty voice and poetic lyrics. Some songs were previously released on 7 inch, ‘Don’t Play With My Heart’, ‘Honey Wine and Lovesongs’, ‘Rock Away’ and the enormous hitsingle ‘They Gonna Talk’. These tunes are amongst Beres’ best ever recordings. The man sure is flying high at the moment. His latest single ‘Mary Mary’, using the reggae cut of the ‘911’ riddim is destined for the topposition in most reggae charts and certainly is a much better song than the Wyclef original. Speaking of which, Wyclef is featured on the weakest song of the album a semi-latin pop attempt that never should have been included but for one reason or another ($ a dweet) every credible artist wants to test his credibility by teaming up with the ex-Fugee.
