Gentleman - Confidence
Releasedatum: 30 augustus 2004
A couple of years ago a German youth came on the scene and he was regarded by many as a novelty artist. Here you had a white European singer, that sounded like a Yardie and who's lyrics gave evidence of a Rastafarian worldview. Three albums and a massive live DVD later, Gentleman is way past his novelty appeal and is nowadays a well respected roots/dancehall singjay. The new album 'Confidence' is solid proof: half of the album was recorded in Jamaica with a host of top producers (like Bobby Digital, Black Scorpio, Don Corleone etc.) and many guest vocalists (Cocoa Tea, Anthony B, Barrington Levy, Ras Shiloh etc.). The German producer Pow Pow and Gentleman himself produced the other half of the tracks, these were both recorded in Jamaica and in Germany and these tracks are easily comparable to the Jamaican stuff. We Dutch don't like to admit it, but Germany, more famous for Schlager and Techno music, is fast becoming the leading European reggae nation.
