Various Artists - Studio One Rockers
Releasedatum: 23 januari 2001
This is a wicked, wicked compilation of Studio One music. Jamaica’s legendary label proves once more to be the absolute best without any contest as I would say, right. Gee, I even get lyrical when listening to this selection. OK, all of these tunes have been featured on other albums (mainly on Heartbeat Studio One re-issues) and the ‘Rockers’ title doesn’t make a lot of sense since it contains rockers, rub-a-dub, reggae and even ska and funk, but to see such a strong selection on one album is very rare. I’ll just write down the tracklisting for you: ‘Real Rock’, ‘Feel Like Jumping’, Bobby Bobylon’, ‘Skylarking’, ‘Village Soul, ‘Greedy G’, ‘Truth and Rights’, ‘Surfing’, ‘No No No’, ‘Phoenix City’, ‘Crabwalking’, ‘Hot Milk’, ‘Badda Dan Dem’ and ‘Ethiopia’. The only odd choice is ‘Eye Of Danger’. I would say ‘Rub A Dub Style’ is THE Michigan and Smiley classic. For all the serious collectors who have these songs already, the album also features a lengthy interview with Coxsone Dodd himself and some beautiful artwork. for all others, just buy it if you like reggae music.
