Iran, 1978. In het afgelegen dorpje Zalava komt een jonge vrouw om het leven bij een duiveluitdrijving. Voor de dorpelingen is een behekste flesje water de oorzaak, voor de brigadier Massoud en Malihe gaat het om stom bijgeloof. Twee werelden botsen en Massoud en Malihe moeten vrezen voor hun leven in het dorp waar zij nu als handlangers van de duivel worden aanzien.
