Reizen, avontuur en persoonlijke revelatie zijn de belangrijkste thema’s op het nieuwe album van singer-songwriter Alessi Laurent-Marke. Thema’s die zijn geplaatst in een muzikaal landschap dat aan veel verschillende emoties appelleert. ’I wanted to create a musical landscape that varied in sound, but an overriding feeling of 'stillness' remained throughout the album. I also wanted to step back from playing acoustic guitar and immerse the songs in very different sound settings from previous recordings,’ aldus Alessi. Met producer Andy LeMaster nam Alessi haar nieuwe album op in het kleine stadje Athens in Georgia. Over het opnameproces zegt ze: ‘I had heard brilliant things about Andy as a person and I felt extremely fortunate to spend time together and work so closely on this album. He brought some very gifted, beautiful musicians on board and I was moved by their warmth in Athens.’ En het is die warmte die overal terugkomt op The Still Life. In de glanzende productie, in het spel van de muzikanten en in de trage, zoete zwierigheid die ten grondslag ligt aan alle nummers op het album.
