Banton, Buju - Friends For Life
Releasedatum: 28 februari 2003
Gargamel’s new album was long overdue, but it was worth waiting for. As with his previous outings, this album is not aimed solely at the dancehall, it is more internationally orientated without losing its Jamaican feel. Buju takes us on a musical journey and visits Jamaican styles like dancehall, reggae, nyabinghi and ska, but also international music like hip hop, r’n’b and even African riddims. ‘Tralala’ and ‘Mr Nine’ were his biggest recent hits in Jamaica and are off course included, but most of the other material is new and especially produced for this album. You’ll hear strong Rastafarian anthems like ‘Up Ye Mighty Race’ and the Tosh cover ‘Mama Africa’, dancehall killers like ‘Spectacular’, ‘Get It On’(with Wayne Wonder’) and the hit bound ‘What Am I Gonna Do’, more urban orientated tunes like ‘Paid Not Played’ and ‘Good Times’(with Beres Hammond and Fat Joe) and even a couple of ballads like ‘One To One’ and ‘Pensive Mood’.
