Various Artists - X5 (Riddem Driven)
Releasedatum: 14 maart 2002
The ‘Poco/Boggle style’, or ‘Bubbling’ as the Dutch youth call it, has made a huge comeback in the Jamaican dancehall scene. First there was the ‘Energy’ riddim, nowadays ‘Nine Nights’ is running things. Not for long though, because it has to make way for this new one. ‘X5’ sounds a lot like ‘Nine Night’, but it’s even tougher. Some tracks carry an acidhouse like bassline remeniscent of Aaliyah’s ‘Try Again’, that really spices things up. All the current artists are there, check Capleton, Sizzla, Anthony B and Frisco Kid for the rastaman style. Gangsterism is represented by Ward 21, Bountykiller, Roundhead, Harry Toddler, Elephantman & Wayne Marshall. Singing vibes come from Anthony Cruz, Kiprich and Christopher. Galaxy P. makes a strong comeback as does Lady Saw, who’s ‘Baddest Gal’ is her most wicked record in a long time.
