Ward 21 - Mentally Disturbed
Releasedatum: 8 november 2001
Ward 21 is the most influential production team to come out of Waterhouse since the Firehouse Crew emerged there in the late 80s. These guys, who operate from King Jammy’s studio, are responsible for some of the most hardcore riddims to come out of Jamaica in the last couple of years. They bursted on the scene with the massive ‘Badda Badda’ back in ’98 and followed this smash up with harder than hardcore ragga riddims like ‘Doorslam’, ‘Volume’, ‘Tixx’, ‘Bellyass’ and ‘Trilogy’. Apart from being a great production team, the members each have individual deejay styles that fuse together in a highly recognizable sound that has been imitated a lot. ‘Mentally Disturbed’ contains all the hits that made them famous, like ‘Pain’, ‘Last Night’, ‘Ganja Smoke’, ‘Blood Stain’, ‘Haters’, ‘Anything-A-Anything’ and ‘Thugs For Life’. The other song have riddims as varied as old school Jammys and hip hop beats. The production is mainly done by Ward 21 themselves and the entire Jammys Family: John John, CJ, Jam 2, Baby G and King Jammys. Jeremy Harding is the only other producer, but the massive ‘Don’t Push It’ on the ‘Liquid ‘riddim’ could not be ignored for this selection.
