Stephens, Richie - Standing Ovation ((My Tribute To Dennis Brown))
Releasedatum: 8 oktober 2004
Richie Stephens latest outing for sure is one of his strongest. The silky smoothed voiced singer delivers a nice mix of lovers, reality and party songs on riddims that have a distinctive 'oldies' feel to it. Mostly recorded featuring a 'live' band instead of a computer, the production credits go mainly to Stephens himself, with additional help by Bobby Digital ('Champion' on the 'Forever Loving Jah'riddim) and Cocoa Tea.(Richie answers Cocoa's big hit 'Tek Weh Yu Gal' with the very appropiate 'Can't Tek Mi Gal'). The songs 'Where Is The Love' (duet With Cocoa Tea), 'Mama's Blessing' (featuring his mom!) and 'Pull Up' where quite successful on 45. Also there is Richie Stephens' tribute to his main inspiration: Dennis Emmanuel Brown. 'Gone To Soon' is a wicked piece that mentions a few dozen of DEB's songs while riding and paraphrasing Dennis Brown's 'Revolution'. And the rest of the songs aren't bad either, very nice stuff.
