Eisenstein Volume 1 R2 (Uk Import) - 3 Discs
Releasedatum: 13 augustus 2007
A collection of seminal films by the Russian master Sergei Eisenstein: the silent classics 'Strike', 'Battleship Potemkin' and 'October'.

In 'Strike' (1924) a strike on the part of the Russian factory workers is brutally suppressed by the authorities. Visual montage, caricature and disturbing slaughterhouse sequences highlight the brutality of the police, in Sergei Eisenstein's allegoric first feature film. 'Battleship Potemkin' (1925) recounts the Krondstadt Navy mutiny at Odessa which sparked off the 1905 Russian Revolution. As a celebration of the 20th anniversary of the revolution, Eisenstein's masterpiece boasts inventive, rapid-cutting camera work (the film contains 1,300 separate shots) and one of the most famous sequences in the history of film: the massacre on the Odessa Steps. 'October' (1927) was commissioned to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Russian Revolution. The film uses montage and a documentary style to present the events of the Bolshevik uprising in 1917. The resulting footage has often been mistaken for genuine newsreel, although some 1917 footage (shot by Esther Shub) was incorporated.
